News: Gunmen kill Kogi official, woman, injure others

Gunmen have shot dead the General Manager of Kogi State Investment and Properties Limited, Mrs. Joe Alhassan and an unidentified woman.

Our correspondent gathered on Wednesday that the gunmen attacked the victims on their way from a missionary work in Bassa Local Government Area of Kogi State.

It was further learnt that the attackers opened fire on the vehicle of the missionaries, which left two occupants of the vehicle, including Alhassan, dead and many others injured.

The Kogi State Government described the attack as tragic and senseless, saying it was very said that the two died at a time when their services to the state and their communities were most needed.

The Kogi State Deputy Governor, Mr. Yomi Awoniyi, spoke during a condolence visit to Bishop Emmanuel Egbunu of the Anglican Communion to condole with the church over the death of the two parishioners.

Awoniyi described the circumstances of Alhassan’s death as painful, adding that the state had lost one of its finest, and best materials.

He described Alhassan as a wonderful personality, a complete woman and a good mother, praying God to grant her husband, children and her immediate family the fortitude to bear the loss.
