Dolphins face Club Africain in Tunisia
NOT satisfied with the manner players of Warri Wolves handled their Week One Glo Premier League game, which they lost 0-2 to Ifeanyi Uba FC at Nnewi last weekend, the management has told the players to gird their loins to avoid early exit from the CAF Confederation Cup.
The Guardian recalls that Warri Wolves crashed out of the CAF Confederation Cup competition at this stage last year. And to prepare the team well ahead of this season’s second round cracker against Dedebit FC of Ethiopia, the players have been relocated to a hide out outside Warri. Wolves will host the Ethiopians on Saturday at the Warri City Stadium.
The visiting Ethiopian club parades quality players who feature for the country’s national team.
Managing Director of Warri Wolves, former international, Davison Owumi, has warned that any player, who failed to obey camp rules, would be sanctioned, just as he advised the players not to toy with the game.
“You have to take the match serious because the Ethiopian club parades some national team players. We are not happy with the defeat in Nnewi, but we have to put that behind us,” Owumi said.
Meanwhile, players like Ibenegbu Ikechukwu and Abu Azeez, who missed the Nnewi tie because of their involvement with the national Beach Soccer team in South Africa, joined Wolves on Tuesday morning in preparation for the cracker against Dedebit FC of Ethiopia.
Warri Wolves Captain and Super Eagles defender, Azubuike Egwuekwe warned his teammates yesterday that the match against Dedebit SC of Ethiopia on Saturday is a most win, just as he urged the fans to come out in thousands to cheer them to victory.
Azubuike spoke when reminded that Dedebit who plays their matches in Bahir Dar Stadium, about 700km, North of Addis Ababa has about 42 thousand fans in attendance in their last match. He said Wolves have to finish work in Warri, otherwise, they will have themselves to blame.
While Warri Wolves is preparing for their opponents from Ethiopia, the other Nigerian representative in the CAF Confederation Cup, Dolphins of Port Harcourt, will face Club Africain in Tunisia same day.
CAF had fixed the weekend of March 13 to 15 for the game, but an official of Dolphins said on Tuesday that the latest reports reaching the club from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) confirmed the game would be played on Saturday, March 14,
Kick off time for the game is 3.00 p.m. local time at the Stade de Olympics in Tunis.
Dolphins have never played against Club Africain or any Tunisian side in any of the CAF competitions.
